From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Hemocyanins (also spelled haemocyanins and abbreviated Hc) are proteins that transport oxygen throughout the bodies of some invertebrate animals. These metalloproteins contain two copper atoms that reversibly bind a single oxygen molecule (O 2 ).

The hemocyanins are blue copper containing proteins which serve as the oxygen carriers in the blood or hemolymph of some  4 Nov 2019 As Willk said, hemoglobin is a very widespread protein and just "swapping it out" in humans (or other vertebrates) is pretty much impossible,  Hemocyanin is a respiratory protein found in certain animal's blood, much like Hemoglobin, which is another respiratory protein.

These metalloproteins contain two copper atoms that reversibly bind a single oxygen molecule (O 2). They are second only to hemoglobin in frequency of use as an oxygen transport molecule. The protein, called hemocyanin, is pale yellow when not combined with oxygen, and blue when combined with oxygen.

Four of the 12 hemocyanin isotigs were found to be identical and were, therefore, designated as a single sequence, resulting in a total of nine unique C. quadricarinatus hemocyanins (CqHc). Their findings revealed 12 spots of upregulated protein expression levels (hemocyanin, alpha-2 macroglobulin, heatshock protein 70, cytosolic manganese superoxide dismutase, catalase, cryptocyanin, glutamine synthetase, arginine kinase, and ribosomal protein S28), in addition to 10 spots of downregulated protein expression levels (heat shock protein 90, cryptocyanin 1, prophenoloxidase Hemocyanin definition: a blue, oxygen-carrying blood pigment containing copper , found in many arthropods and | Meaning, pronunciation, translations and examples 2019-02-03 · Media in category "Hemocyanin" The following 8 files are in this category, out of 8 total.

Unlike the hemoglobin in red blood cells found in vertebrates, hemocyanins are not bound to blood cells. The molecules are carried in the haemolymph.
